Enjoy swimming, boating & fishing in pristine mountain lakes (Lake Santeetlah & Lake Fontana), fly fishing in native trout streams and for the experienced kayaker or rafter, discover the Cheoah River with Class III, IV & IV+ whitewater. 2012 Cheoah River Release Dates are: March 17 & 18, April 14, 15, 28 & 29, May 5, 6, 19, 20, 26 & 27, July 7 & 8, September 1, November 3. Vacation Home Rentals offers 3 homes approximately 5 miles or less from the Cheoah River. For more information on rafting on the Cheoah River, check with local rafting companies.
Get back to nature on one of the many hiking trails including Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, a virgin timber forest with trees over 400 years old and The Appalachian Trail.
Tsali Recreation Area offers trails for mountain biking and horseback riding. Bike rentals are available at nearby outdoor centers and horseback riding stables are located in the surrounding area.
The Cherohala Skyway, a National Scenic By-Way, offers scenic vistas at mile high elevations in wilderness mountain country, hiking trails & picnic areas.
A visit to Fontana Dam, the highest concrete dam east of the Mississippi is an amazing historical sight, providing spectacular mountain & lake views.
Conveniently located to all area tourist attractions yet away from the stress of heavy traffic & heavily populated areas!!! Most rental units are within a 30 minute drive for whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River or 45 minutes drive to the entrance of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee Reservation & Harrah's Casino. Within a two hour drive to Asheville, NC, Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, TN.
